How it works

How to get your YouTube transcript

Bring a tutorial, interview, or Short into a searchable text workflow. The tool checks available YouTube captions first and can use supported audio transcription when captions cannot be retrieved.

  1. 01

    Copy a public YouTube link

Open an individual video and copy its HTTPS link from the share menu or address bar.

  2. 02

Paste the link and get the transcript

Sign in, review the credit cost, and start extraction. Available text depends on the content the source video makes accessible.

  3. 03

    Review, copy, or download TXT

Read the available transcript, copy the words, or download a text file to use in your next project.

Supported YouTube links

YouTube watch URLs, youtu.be short links, Shorts, embed links, and completed live recordings. Links identify one video; channel pages and playlists are not accepted.

Public videos only, within the displayed duration limit. Private, deleted, login-only, or restricted content may be unavailable.

Put your YouTube transcript to work

Turn a tutorial into study notes, find a quote in an interview, or review the structure of a Short. Download the transcript as TXT, then check important wording against the source before citing or repurposing it.

YouTube transcript questions

Does the YouTube transcript generator support Shorts?

Yes. Paste a public youtube.com/shorts/ link just as you would a regular watch URL. The tool also accepts youtu.be, embed, and completed live-recording links for individual videos.

Can I get a YouTube transcript without captions?

The tool tries available captions first. When captions are unavailable, supported audio transcription may be used if the audio is accessible and the configured service and duration limits allow it. Private or restricted videos may still fail.

Can I transcribe a playlist, live stream, or long video?

Submit one completed public video at a time. Playlists, channels, and ongoing live streams are not supported. The current service supports videos up to 15 minutes, subject to the limit displayed with the tool.

Which transcript formats can I download?

You can copy the extracted transcript or download it as a plain TXT file. This tool does not currently export SRT or VTT subtitle files.

Do I need an account, and is transcription free?

Sign in to run extraction. The tool shows the current credit cost, your balance, and any available signup credits before you start. Check the pricing page if you need more credits.

Can I get transcripts in languages other than English?

Transcripts can be returned in the languages available from the source video. Availability varies by video; this tool does not automatically translate the text into another language.
